Seen at the RV/MH Hall of Fame. This 1964 Coachman Cadet 15' Trailer is the first production unit built by Hall of Fame member Thomas Corson as he and his brothers founded Coachmen Industries. The first Coachmen RV products were manufactured in 1964 in downtown Middlebury, Indiana. Coachmen’s first year of production totaled 12 travel trailers, a single truck camper and 80 truck caps. Since then, over three quarters of a million Coachmen recreational vehicles have been produced and sold. In December 2008, Coachmen RV became a brand of Forest River, Inc. Today Coachmen RV is still headquartered in Middlebury, Indiana. Its primary manufacturing facilities occupy over 220 acres, serving as dedicated manufacturing facilities for Coachmen branded Class A Motorhomes, Class C Motorhomes, Class B Motorhomes, Fifth Wheels and Travel Trailers. Coachmen and Viking branded Travel Trailers and Camping Trailers are manufactured in its Centerville and White Pigeon, Michigan facilities. Founded in 1972 as the Recreational Vehicle/Manufactured Housing Heritage Foundation, the museum opened in 1991 and in 2007, moved into its current location. The foundation is a non-profit organization. The primary building, Founders Hall, is complete with artificial trees and other plants to create a simulated RV campground. The museum features a variety of recreation vehicles dating back 100 years and continuing through the 1980s. The oldest vehicle on display is a 1913 Earl Travel Trailer and is the oldest surviving specimen known. Seen at the RV/MH Hall of Fame. This 1954 Yellowstone 18' Travel Trailer is one of the relatively high-line models built by Yellowstone founder Elmer Weaver in the late 40s and early 50s. Bright aluminum exterior and all birch interior with residential type appliances. Founded in 1945 as the Yellowstone Coach Company. The Yellowstone travel trailers were built and sold in Wakarusa, Indiana from 1945-1990. Yellowstone trailers were well built and the travel trailer of choice for carnival employees. Yellowstone was one of the very few companies that didn’t venture into the larger type mobile homes.
